The current study examines the validity of the cloze test as a measure of English as a foreign language proficiency among Iraqi EFL learners. The findings revealed that the cloze test is a reliable method for evaluating general language proficiency among Iraqi EFL students. The current research also noticed a 0.68 association between the cloze test and reading comprehension, suggesting that it may be viewed as an indicator of reading comprehension. It was also discovered that cloze tests centered on written discourse offer a more reliable indicator of reading comprehension and general language capacity than cloze tests based on brief conversations.
