A boy starts a journey from boyhood to manhood in the fall of 1860, as the country begins to gear up for war. He takes a few belongings, and some precious memories, as he travels from Missouri to the stark plains of Texas to run a stage station on the Butterfield Trail. His only companions are his dog and his salty Uncle Edd. His faithful Granny had instilled in him a belief in God, and a trust in the Word. As he faced all the life lessons learned along the way, he could still hear her say \"In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." Each day brings new lessons as he deals with survival, stewardship, slavery, and even love. The acquaintances he interacts with come to know that he is a good example of "Let no man despise thy youth."
