In an era dominated by noise and constant stimulation, silence has acquired an incalculable value. In an era dominated by noise and constant stimulation, silence has acquired an incalculable value. However, this silence implies not only the absence of sound, but also an inner state of calm and peace of mind. For this reason, more and more people, especially in large cities, are seeking refuge away from the hustle and bustle to spend days free from words, media, technology and urban noise. Father Rafael Pascual, a Discalced Carmelite, distinguishes between various degrees of silence, each of which, the deeper it is, opens doors to experiences that fill the soul with joy: divine silence, overwhelming silence, permanent silence, illuminating silence, charitable silence, necessary silence.... Up to twenty types of silences, which united and intertwined, form a rich inner experience and reach the fullness of true silence. Through imaginary letters, whose purpose is to teach the recipient how to achieve tranquility, peace and inner growth, the value of silence is recreated from a Christian perspective of recollection. Traditionally, silence is essential for connection with the divine, allowing us to calm the mind and open ourselves to a deeper reality that transcends the physical world. It is in this state of serenity that we can experience inner peace, unity with the universe and the presence of God. From a human perspective, we discover that creativity, often linked to constant activity, can flourish in silence. Numerous studies have shown that silence has a positive impact on mental and physical health: it reduces stress, anxiety and depression, improves sleep, concentration and memory, and strengthens the immune system.
