The role of value stream mapping and its practices needs to be identified and recognized in the Indian industries as an important research area. There has always been needed to implement value stream mapping (VSM) effectively, especially in small and medium-size industries with resources scarcity condition and also for large industries which claims to adopt and implement the proven concepts of world-class manufacturing. The reviewed literature was categorized as (1) case studies, (2) conceptual work, (3) empirical/modeling work, (4) survey based studies. The primary objective of this current study was to identify the factors affecting the performance of the Indian industries; manufacturing waste, attributes, measures, obstacles and success factors to values stream mapping implementation in the context of productivity, and performance, for sustainable growth of Indian industries. The present study was conducted in two parts; part-I has a response from domain experts, and part-II has the survey responses from Indian industry.
