The concept of the environment involves social, political and economic aspects as well as natural elements. Thus, recognizing that environmental issues are complex underscores the importance of understanding the dynamics of the relationships that guide individuals in their interactions with the environment. In this sense, studies have shown the relationship between values, beliefs and behavior. Schwartz's (1992) theory of values identifies the complexity of the relationship between values and behaviour, organizing the field of human motivation into ten motivational types. Pato's (2004) studies on environmental beliefs are able to indicate how individuals relate to the environment, as well as their predisposition to act or not act in an ecological manner, thus allowing an understanding of ecological behavior and its forms of manifestation. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the perception of environmental beliefs and ecological behavior of individuals involved in environmental issues in the municipality of Lavras.
