Valvettithurai or VVT is a small coastal village on the northeast coast of the Jaffna Peninsula in Sri Lanka''s north. The population is mainly minority Sri Lankan Tamils of Hindu or Catholic faith. The main industry is farming, fishing and trading. The town is the place of origin of two rebel groups namely Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Prominent rebels leaders, such as TELO leader Kuttimani and the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran were also born in VVT. The town is near a rivlet called Thondaiman Aru. The mouth of the river has the popular Hindu temple dedicated to Murugan called Selva Sannithy.
