Named after the eminent industrialist and former Indian Civil Service (ICS) officer, Velagapudi Ramakrishna, it was founded in 1977 and has a good reputation in engineering education in Andhra Pradesh. The institution is ideally located in a vast expanse of 40 acres of land on the out skirts of Vijayawada city at a distance of about 6 km from the city centre.
