This is Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch's 1870 novella, "Venus in Furs". A man haunted by a disturbing dream of the goddess Venus wearing furs seeks advice from his friend, who recommends that he read a manuscript called "Memoirs of a Suprasensual Man". The manuscript tells the tale of a relationship of dominance, submission and, finally, humiliation. Part of his epic series called "Legacy of Cain", the story draws from themes of female dominance and sadomasochism, and is heavily based on the authors own life. Leopold Rittervon Sacher-Masoch (1836 - 1895) was an Austrian journalist and writer. He is most famous for his romantic stories of Galician life. Notably, due to the nature of his writing, the word "masochism" is derived from his name. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in a modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.
