Vermont is a tiny state with a big heart. It's a place that inspires dreams and stirs imagination. It's a state of mind, with a deeply rooted sense of place. One that values the land and moves to the beat of the seasons. For more than forty years, author Anne Averyt has called Vermont home. She has shared the land and the life of Vermont; she knows what makes this small state special. In Vermont Perspectives: Sense of Place, State of Mind, Averyt easily moves between a spirited fiddle hoedown and the calm of a backcounty road. She explores, with insight and humor, the keen sense of place and solid footing in local values that shape Vermonters' views of home and the world beyond. A nine-year veteran commentator on Vermont Public Radio, Averyt shares her experience in this expanded collection of eighty of her Commentary essays.Hinweis: Dieser Artikel kann nur an eine deutsche Lieferadresse ausgeliefert werden.
Anne Averyt's romance with words has been lifelong. Her journalism career spans fifty years and four states. But it is through poetry that Averyt finds her authentic voice. Using sparse language and evocative imagery, Averyt's poetry seeks to "capture a moment, share an emotion, contemplate a thought." "My first love was a priest ... and a poet," Averyt says. "Gerard Manley Hopkins captured my heart and imagination through his love of words, how he used them to paint landscapes and explore soulscapes. I, too, want my poetry to touch my readers, to disquiet and to comfort. I'm not a priest, but I love being a poet." Anne Averyt is author/co-author of books published by Random House and EP Dutton. Currently, she facilitates groups on a mental health crisis intervention unit in her hometown of Burlington, VT and is a Commentator on Vermont Public Radio. Her work has appeared in journals including 580 split, Third Wednesday, Riverlit, the Aurorean, and Best of Burlington Writers Workshop, 2013, 2014, 2015.
