Today's voice is more austere, more economical, and more rational; the one from before was more cheerful, suggestive, impulsive, but also more disorderly, chaotic, imprecise, and, if one wishes, less polished, more rough. All this does not shield me from the reader who may choose to discard entirely the pages that lie ahead. It only commits me to my own reading and writing, that of the past and the present, and thereby continue the process of self-critique.
