Patient teaching is an important medium for communicating self-care information. This book provides an extensive review of literature on the different concepts and theories related to patient education, preoperative client needs and health teaching. The use of Actual face to face health teaching and use of Video presentation as a means of providing preoperative health teachings on patients scheduled to undergo a major abdominal operation was implemented. Patient outcomes were observed, analyzed statistically and results were presented to provide an evidence based information on the effectiveness of the teaching strategies. Findings of this study can help nurse practitioners to save time without compromising their responsibilities to provide health teaching when the video is utilized as a means in providing the necessary preoperative health teachings, thereby, helping nurses be more effective in their tasks in the clinical area.
