The primary intent of this research project is to study the leadership roles of teachers and principals. In particular, the study focuses on the role and signs of an effective leader in a secondary school setting. This research project was carried out in four school boards. There were two school boards (one North and the other West) of the city of Edmonton, Alberta, one school board in Windsor and the County of Essex, and another school board in Southwestern Ontario. Questionnaires were administered to Principals and Teachers in schools with grades 9 to 12 students in three of the school boards. Interviews were conducted with principals and teachers in all four school boards. Also, the findings include examples of personal experiences of staff members in these schools as well as my own individual comments on this research project.
