It is an autobiographical fiction novel based upon her own experiences in England and Belgium. Lucy Snowe, a young Englishwoman, narrates the trials, losses and struggles of her life in the English countryside and in the town of Villette in the fictional kingdom of Labassecour. Charlotte Brontë had four published novels: Jane Eyre (1847), Shirley (1849), Villette (1853) and The Professor (1857). Charlotte Brontë and two of her sisters, Anne Brontë and Emily Brontë, jointly wrote a book of poems which was originally published in 1846 under their pen names Currer, Acton and Ellis Bell. Autorenporträt
Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855) was an English writer and the eldest of the Brontë sisters. Writing under the male pseudonym of Currer Bell, she published a book of poetry with her sisters, Emily and Anne, in 1846. Her first published novel 'Jane Eyre' (1847) is a widely celebrated classic of English literature and features themes of early feminism. Her following two novels were also highly successful and remain popular today.
