Thierry Robberecht(1960) has two children and lives in Brussels (Belgium). He has been writing children's books for fifteen years now, often about subjects that children find difficult to talk about, e.g. secrets, death, envy and rage. He likes to create characters who feel like they don't fit in. His own childhood is an excellent source of inspiration for that. Besides picture books, he also writes novels and comics. In his novels, usually detectives, the most common theme is a family secret. In order to grow up and move on, his heroes have to reveal a mistake their parents made but never admitted. The families have often torn apart, so the secrets perfectly fit in. He tries to make the stories exciting, with a touch of humor. For his comics, Thierry usually works with illustrator Marco Paulo. Their comic strips are also about family but in a more humorous, sharp and light way. Parents are defeated by the speed of the world and by their loving but sometimes unconsciously cruel children. Finally, he has written lyrics for Belgian singers like Marka and Jeff Bodart.
