Vinjak is a brandy produced in Serbia by the Rubin Kru evac company. Previously known as Cognac, it was renamed Vinjak when stricter laws governing the what may be branded Cognac came into force. However, like French cognac, Vinjak is still rated VS (Very Special), VSOP (Very Special Old Pale) or XO (Extra Old) depending on how long it was aged in 500 litre oak casks. The drink itself is light brown, and contains 40% alcohol. Brandy is a spirit produced by distilling wine. Brandy generally contains 35% 60% alcohol by volume and is typically taken as an after-dinner drink. Some brandies are aged in wooden casks, while some are simply coloured with caramel colouring to imitate the effect of such aging (and some brandies are produced using a combination of both aging and colouring).
