Vinje is a former municipality in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the southern part of the present-day municipality of Hemne. The village of Vinjeøra, at the end of the Vinjefjorden, was the municipal center of Vinje. The lake Vasslivatnet lies in the east part of Vinje. Originally (since 1838) Vinje was a part of the municipality of Hemne. On 1 July 1924, the municipality of Vinje was established when it split off from Hemne. Initially, it had a population of 716. On 1 January 1964, the municipalities of Vinje and Hemne as well as the western part of Heim were merged together to form a new, enlarged municipality of Hemne. Before the merger, Vinje had a population of 576.
