Violence can occur in the American sport of baseball through many incidents including pitchers intentionally hitting a player with the ball (see hit by pitch), a grudge between a pitcher and a hitter, a rivalry between the two teams in the match up, or a play at a base thought of as unnecessarily rough. Any of these actions may result in the offensive player "charging the mound", or charging at the pitcher after the incident to provoke a fight.
