Visualising the Transient Self: An Examination of the Intangible in Creative Work, investigates the notion of the self as an ambiguous and transient state, via a praxis of theoretical and creative research. Key terms of philosopher Slavoj Zizek are used to establish the theoretical perspective of the research, which are then applied to a number of creative works by visual artists Bill Viola, Anna Gaskell, and Gabriella Bisetto. The researcher s previous and current creative work are critically analysed through the same lens. The aim of the research is to create video-based installations that attempt to make tangible, the ephemeral notion of self.
