Vital pulp therapy is broadly defined as, a treatment done to preserve and maintain pulp tissue in a healthy state; tissue that has been compromised by caries, trauma or restorative procedure. Preserving the vitality of pulp is important during the treatment of deep carious lesions. Living pulp is critical for the maintenance of tooth homeostasis and essential for tooth longevity. A conservative approach can lead to a favorable diagnosis. The ultimate objectives of any pulp capping procedure involves arrest of residual caries progression and thus preserving the vitality and function of the coronal or remaining radicular pulp tissue. It encourages the pulp to initiate a reparative response and maintain the health of pulp tissue.
