The need for information about the EU has already
been acknowledged by the European Parliament in 1971
when information offices were established in each EU
member state. The offices of the EP represent the
European Parliament and its members of Parliament of
each individual EU member state. The task of the
every office is to keep the citizens informed on
European political developments and the EP s role
within these developments.
It is in this paper where the possibilities
concerning vmbo pupils and their European citizenship
are explored. The main focus, during the research,
lies on finding possibilities for the office of the
EP to intensify the experience of vmbo pupils''
European citizenship. This paper only reports the
results of one part of the entire research, namely
the experience of the vmbo pupils. The complete
business plan for the office of the EP includes also
the thesis of Hanneke van Hoof, which focuses on
policy makers/executors of secondary education. The
central question in the research discussed in this
paper is:
How do vmbo pupils experience their European citizenship?
