The main intention of the writer of this book is to examine the relationship between the vocabulary teaching techniques used in English textbooks and the vocabulary testing techniques employed in schools. To this end, grade eleven English textbook was selected and the vocabulary teaching techniques in the textbook were identified and examined. Similarly, eighteen final examination papers were selected from two government and one non-government preparatory schools in Addis Ababa. The main intention of the writer of this book is to examine the relationship between the vocabulary teaching techniques used in English textbooks and the vocabulary testing techniques employed in schools. To this end, grade eleven English textbook was selected and the vocabulary teaching techniques in the textbook were identified and examined. Similarly, eighteen final examination papers were selected from two government and one non-government preparatory schools in Addis Ababa. Then,the vocabulary items used in the examination papers were sorted out and categorized according to their types. After that, the relationship between the vocabulary teaching techniques which are suggested in the textbook and the vocabulary testing techniques used in the correspondig examination papers was compared and contrasted.

Ayalew Mulugeta is a lecturer in the Department of English Language and Literature at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He has received his B.Ed. Degree in English from Bahir Dar University and his M.A. Degree in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) from Addis Ababa University.
