Communities in Karamoja largely depend on food aid from development organizations to improve the health and nutritional status of mothers and children of 6 to 59 months old. This study assessed the impact of pedagogical strategies used by extension service providers on household food security. A descriptive research design was adopted employing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Children 6 to 59 months, women 15 to 49 years, extension service providers and extension service workers were considered for the study. A random sampling system was used to select 168 households. Results showed that the GAM and SAM rates according to WHO standards had reduced from 22.5% and 5.5% respectively to approximately 9.5% and 1.8 % respectively within a period of eight years. The methods used for training were inadequate and did not bring out the desired outcomes. Inappropriate tools and materials used during training greatly affected the implementation of food production activities. The trainers were not competent to deliver crop production content to the households. Recommendations included promoting general education in crop production theories and practices and group based learning.
