Gagauzia is a small autonomous region in the south of the Republic of Moldova. It was formed in the early 1990s on the wave of democratic processes that shook the entire Soviet space. The emergence of the autonomous territorial entity was conditioned by the compact residence of Gagauz and the socio-political conditions of that time. The period of formation of Gagauzia took place in difficult conditions of confrontation with the central authorities of the Republic of Moldova, constant socio-economic crises. Nevertheless, the internal political processes from year to year became more and more perfect, dynamic, accumulating its positive experience in the formation of the regional elite, election of executive staff, change of political leaders. A few years ago, when political confrontation was raging in the Republic of Moldova, Gagauzia felt the double burden of political life. After all, besides the parliamentary elections throughout the country, as if simultaneously and almost insensibly for the rest of Moldova, in Gagauzia itself there was a struggle for the chair of the head of the Autonomy - bashkan. The election of the bashkan can be rightfully considered a business card of the region.
