Ken Michota was born in 1947, in Johnson City, New York, but spent his early childhood in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. In the early 1950s, his family moved to Sussex, New Jersey, where he graduated in 1965 from Sussex High School. In November 1967, Ken enlisted in the US Air Force and served overseas in Viet Nam, Okinawa, Germany, and England. His stateside assignments included Lackland, Davis-Monthan, Keesler, and Langley Air Force Bases. He retired from the military in 1991 and began teaching computer programming and desktop applications at a local college where he eventually became the department chair. Ken is now a technical business analyst for a national healthcare organization. His resume also includes amateur calligrapher, guitar player, pocket billiards enthusiast, a once-rated player in the US Chess Federation, and now poet. On a whim, Ken entered an online poetry contest with Circle of Friends, the first poem in this book, and earned several awards and recognitions. Ken has been writing poetry for over 25 years and his decision to finally publish his work is one of personal accomplishment to be shared with all those who inspired much of what he has written.
