In the story Vanilla Dreams, a young woman is destined to start a family, but fails to conceive. She prays for a baby and is met with disappointment - until visitors arrive. In the story The Maker, a robot is reconstructed from scraps and sent out to serve a dying world. Failing to deliver results in a reevaluation of time and resources. In the story The Man Who Traded the World, an artist tries to educate an arrogant immortal populace through his paintings. Their hubris could mean the end of civilization. In the story The Shadow Knights, a fortune teller interprets the future for a young boy, who must determine if her predictions are accurate. In the title story, Voices from the Deep, a female reporter is tasked with interviewing a mysterious cult leader who claims an apocalypse is approaching. Voices whisper from her nightmares, speaking an indecipherable language, possibly warning of a disastrous outcome. Does the man know the truth? Do the voices confirm his prophecy? The old gods, ancient beasts from another age, may have the answer. Voices are speaking to you from these very pages. Angels and aliens, demons and creatures of fantasy, are all demanding a captive audience. Characters and worlds are here waiting for you to discover, summoning readers from forgotten realms. Listen close to what they're saying.
