It was generally known as the Transporter or Caravelle in Europe, and to some in the United Kingdom and Ireland as the T25, and as the Vanagon in the U.S. It was built from May 1979 until July 1992. It was the last of the rear-engined Volkswagens. Compared to its predecessor, the Volkswagen Type 2, the T3 was larger and heavier, with square corners replacing the rounded edges of the older models.
