The aim of this study is to analyse the factors that determine the distribution of political competition and electoral geography in Mozambique between 1994-2014. Multiparty democracy in Mozambique began in 1990, when the People's Assembly approved the new Constitution of the Republic, which changed the configuration of the political system from one-party to multiparty, which allowed other political organisations to emerge and legally established political-electoral competition. The study's methodology was based on bibliographical research into political competition and electoral geography, followed by research into official secondary data from the 1994 to 2014 elections, which made it possible to articulate, organise, measure and analyse the data and graphically demonstrate electoral geography in Mozambique. The results of the research show that the social roots of the political parties (FRELIMO and RENAMO), as well as the fact that the RENAMO party and the FRELIMO party are the main actors that have controlled the electoral management institution since 1994, explains the distribution of political competition and the map of electoral geography in Mozambique.
