The constant technological evolution in health has provided nurses with great challenges in maintaining safety and quality of care for people in critical situations, driving the need for the development of specific skills in this area.Human vulnerability presents itself as an important concept in this context, associated with serious health implications, which justified a review of the literature and a path of competence development where the importance of the intervention of the specialized nurse emerged. What is the maximum exponent of vulnerability in the person in a critical situation and to what extent is it possible to care for in these most hostile contexts?
