This volume in the Discoveries in the Judaean Desert series is composed of two sections, the first of which contains Aramaic papyri from Wadi Daliyeh written in Official Aramaic, the standard language of scribes in the Persian period. The papyri are all documentary and contain mainly deeds of slave sales. These documents aid us in understanding certain aspects of the society and the formulaic language of the fourth century BCE. The second section of the volume contains Miscellanea, part 2, from Cave 4 at Qumran. Among this group of miscellaneous texts, 4Q368-371 provide further insights into the large group of apocryphal and pseudepigraphical texts found at Qumran, and should be studied in conjunction with the other volumes containing Parabiblical texts (XIII, XIX, XXII, and XXX).
This volume has two parts: the first consists of Aramaic documentary papyri from Wadi Daliyeh, mainly deeds of slave sales, dating from the Persian period (4th century BCE); the second is a collection of further miscellaneous texts from Cave 4 at Qumran, including more apocryphal and pseudepigraphical texts related to those in the volumes of Parabiblical Texts in this series.
