This publication contains a scientific and practical commentary on Title VI "Remuneration and labour regulation" of the Labour Code of the Russian Federation. On the basis of a comprehensive analysis of regulatory, scientific and law enforcement (primarily, judicial) sources, an in-depth characterisation of the Russian legislation in the area of wages is given. The author is of the opinion that wages are a big problem in the Russian economy. The legislature and the executive branch take a defeatist, passive stance and do not dare to act decisively. As a result, wages contain "black holes" in the legislation that prevent workers from fully enjoying their constitutional right to fair, decent and stable remuneration for work. Particular attention is paid to the legislative changes that came into force on 1 September 2007. Since then, wages have had a pronounced economic impact, which has manifested itself primarily in the fact that some legal definitions have disappeared and new ones have changed the palette of wages, confusing their characteristics and established orders.
