Autorenporträt
Kathleen Ferguson-Huntington is a multi-faceted, multi-media artist living in Taos, New Mexico. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Arts in Digital Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She first came to Taos on a Wurlitzer Followship. In 2000, she she was hired to teach art and design at Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar. She worked for twelve years in Doha and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, notably trade routes along the Silk Road. In 2012 Kathleen returned to New Mexico and started a memoir called Living With the Giga Rich: A Qatar Memoir about her time in the Middle East and her experiences teaching; how she empowered her students -often wealthy Arabian royals ?by inspiring them to see, and think, in unaccustomed ways. She felt that thinking creatively was arguably the most important skill to acquire and the hardest to impart. The e-book memoir can be purchased at: books2read.com/gigarich. The second memoir is GigaTravels To Exotic Places A Memoir for sale at: books2read.com/gigatravels. Her third e-book, an adult fairy tale: Wak-A-Delic Tales Fun Flash Fiction From The World Of Flora And Fauna can be purchased at: https//books2read.com/wak-a-delic. It is a collection of hilarious short stories about personified animals who use social media, high tech and other means to solve their problems. Her latest major research project will become an animation and live performance called "Silk/Silver". This work is inspired by her exploration of the Silk Road, the seminal corridor linking the Americas trade with China, Japan and other parts of Asia via the Manila Galleons from 1565 to 1815. The project's narrative creates a hybrid cultural cocktail integrating mercantile products and design linking Asia with Mexico (NM). The Silk Road and Silk/Silver is a smorgasbord of cultural heritage includes many spiritual, ethnic, artistic, and gene pool exchanges. A series of minature gouache paintings will be shown at the prestigious Wright Contemporary Art Center in Taos beginning in early June, 2023.
