It is administrated by the Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol (CBV) and takes part in international volleyball competitions. It is ranked first in the FIVB World Rankings as of August 2009. They currently hold the titles of the FIVB World Grand Prix (having won it for the eighth time in 2009) and the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
