It was apparent from an early age that I had been gifted for phrasing words with rhyme. My first memory of sharing these phrases was a particular year at Christmas, not having funds to buy my parents a gift; I wrote a poem expressing my love and gratitude. For many years I was hesitant about sharing my innermost thoughts with anyone except friends and family. Many have encouraged me to put some of these words in book form for others. With this in mind, I am now presenting this book to share with you a glimpse of my work. The Gift It is not something I have earned, A gift that has been given me. Nor something for which I yearned, A gift of phrasing words in poetry. Rather, it seems a drive compelling To set down with pen meaningful words To make rhyme with my storytelling Things I've seen, felt, and heard. My desire is not for fortune or fame, As words are penned to make them rhyme, Perhaps only to cause sweet refrain, Bring a smile or give a pleasing time. If in my rhyme I make one day brighter As I form my thoughts in simple poetry, Lift a burden or make one lighter, I have used wisely this gift given me.
