Autorenporträt
Martin has a rich and interesting background and the many strands from his academic and professional career have been woven together to create Walking, Weight and Wellness. He has a Ph.D. in exercise physiology from Stanford University and, while in California, also coached swimming and worked with many Olympic medal winners and world record holders. He wrote the first North American book on Employee Fitness and the Canadian Government's weight management book, The Phacts of Life. He was the co-creator of PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire), which is widely used as a screening tool for people entering exercise programs. Martin represented the President's Council on Physical Fitness to promote workplace wellness throughout the USA and his contributions have been recognized by the White House and the Prime Minister of Canada. Currently his passion is to promote physical activity and lifestyle artistry throughout North America. He does this as a highly entertaining keynote speaker, through his online webzine, Well, as a singer/songwriter with a recorded repertoire of wellness related songs, as a promoter of worksite walking and wellness and now with Walking, Weight and Wellness. Martin currently resides in Victoria, BC with his wife Nancy and Susie the cat and is ever mindful of the words of Marianne Moore that, to miss the joy is to miss it all.
