Brigadier General Wallace Duffield Wright VC, CB, CMG, DSO (20 September 1875 25 March 1953) was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.Wright was 27 years old, and a lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, The Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment, British Army, employed Northern Nigeria Regiment during the Kano-Sokoto Expedition, Nigeria when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC (currently on display at The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment Museum.
