As of September 2008, it had approximately 900 pupils. Places at the school are usually oversubscribed and entrance is via competitive exam. Old boys (and girls) of the school are referred to as "Old Walcountians".The school operates to some extent using the Senior Leadership Team. This is a small collection of senior experienced and long-serving staff, this usually includes various departmental heads as well as the heads of the lower and upper school and the sixth form. Each member of 'ESG' has particular responsibilities within the school. The current ESG set-up consists of the Acting Headmaster, the Deputy Head teacher (responsible for uniform and praise/discipline, teacher coaching and shadowing the Acting HM where necessary), Assistant Head teacher with responsibility for Pupil Development, Assistant Head teacher with responsibility for teaching and learning development, Head of Sixth Form and the Bursar.
