Ed Darack has covered Americäs modern wars as both a writer and a photographer for over a decade. He¿s embedded with combat troops a total of six times¿twice in Iraq and four times in Afghanistan. He¿s also embedded dozens of times with the U.S. military during training exercises, both at home and overseas. Darack has independently produced a tremendous volume of military themed imagery used on the covers and interiors of books, newspapers, magazines, and via online venues across the globe. This includes covers of Newsweek, Time magazine special edition, the cover of a #2 New York Times bestseller on Pat Tillman, the cover of Germany¿s Stern magazine, two covers of Smithsonian¿s Air & Space magazine, the covers of a host of military themed books, The New York Times, and Vanity Fair, among many other venues. He¿s the author of a number of books on modern military topics, including Victory Point (Penguin, 2009), and The Final Mission of Extortion 17 (Smithsonian Books, 2017). Darack is a contributing editor to Smithsonian¿s Air & Space magazine, where he writes frequently about military aviation topics. Other military writing credits of his include Foreign Policy, The Marine Corps Gazette, Proceedings of the U.S. Naval Institute, and Leatherneck magazine.
