Pierre Loti (eigentlich Julien Viaud, 1850-1923) war Marineoffizier. Reisen nach Nord- und Südamerika, Tahiti, Tongking (Teilnahme am Boxerkrieg), Indien, China und Japan. Er veröffentlichte seit 1879 Romane, Erzählungen, einige Dramen und Reiseberichte.
