The appropriate design and function of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management is a quite challenging task in developing countries. The factors such as increasing generation of waste, high investment cost, lack of understanding over a diversity of factors, heterogeneous nature of waste, availability of infrastructure and co-operation & awareness of the public affect the different stages of waste management. Further, no single and uniform solution can be applied to all MSW management requirements. Therefore, it is necessary for developing countries to modernize MSW management system through technological options. However, the accurate waste quantification is a paramount and prerequisite for implementing any technological options in MSW management system. The waste generation forecast model enables more adequate dimensioning of the waste collection infrastructure and treatment facilities, thus helping to avoid expensive over or under capacity. The accurate estimation of MSW generation also provides of MSW generation also provides the support for integrated MSW management. Hence, this book deals the development of MSW generation prognostic tool.
