The book is an outcome of the Research on Integrated Farming System (IFS) under All India Coordinated Research Project on IFS. This was undertaken during 2010-11 in Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and a model with crops (Field+Horticultural)- Diary- Poultry- Fishery- Apiary - Liquid manure production- Vermi-composting- Bio-gas plant and value addition was developed and projected as a zero-waste model. The aim of the project was to meet the annual food requirement of a family (having 5 members) as far as possible, sustain natural resources and to present a zero waste model with 1 hectare cultivated area. Recycling of all the bio-wastes generated within the IFS model and thereby reducing cost for purchase inputs, encouraging organic inputs, reducing release of GHG and improving the economic viability was the motive behind development of the model. The authors are hopeful that the book would be of immense help to the Scientist and Farmers in pursuing Integrated Farming System activities globally as a zero waste strategy and help in mitigating Global warming by reducing the release of GHG.
