Karridrae is different, and in the world of the Domes, different is dangerous. In a hostile landscape devoid of plant life; in a future where humanity clings to survival; the way to stay alive is to follow the rules. Karridrae is an Aberration. Her very existence breaks the rules. Her telepathic abilities simmer beneath a veneer of compliance, a constant danger she must suppress. When a vision of impossible green-a living plant in this dead world-breaks through her mental barriers, her careful facade begins to crack. Ryn is a rebel. An outsider, who sees through Karridrae's carefully constructed walls, revealing connections she's been trained to fear. Their meeting will become the catalyst that unravels everything Karridrae knows. Join Karridrae on a journey through the wastelands beyond the Dome's borders, where the fight for survival might just alter the destiny of a civilization bound by fear. Wastelands, the first instalment in Samira Lloyd's gripping Parched Earth Trilogy, immerses readers in a queer post-apocalyptic saga where the seeds of change are beginning to stir.

Autorenporträt
Since rewriting 'Jack and the Beanstalk' at age two to feature a heroine named Lisa, Samira has been both seeking and creating stories with powerful female protagonists. A graduate of the University of Wollongong's Creative Writing and English Literature program, she was shortlisted for the 2020 Write It Penguin Fellowship. In her science fiction and fantasy writing, she creates complex heroines navigating extraordinary worlds, with queer characters at the heart of her stories. When not crafting her own stories, she teaches language and literacy to students with learning difficulties on Gadigal land.
