Catherine Amy Dawson Scott (1865-1934) was a British writer, playwright, and poet. She gained recognition as a co-founder of International PEN, a global association of writers, and played a significant role in promoting literature and defending its place in society. Born in England, she began her writing career while working as a secretary. Dawson Scott published several novels and poetry collections, often under pen names. She was known for her diverse literary output, tackling various genres and themes, including romance, mystery, and social commentary. During World War I, she created the Women's Defence Relief Corps to support the war effort and provide opportunities for women. After the war, she founded the To-Morrow Club, a gathering of aspiring writers mentored by established authors. This club eventually evolved into the International PEN Club. Dawson Scott's literary contributions and her efforts to foster a community of writers continue to be celebrated. She left a lasting impact on the literary landscape of her time.
