Watauga College is a residential college founded at Appalachian State in 1972. Watauga College has an interdisciplinary approach to fulfilling Appalachian State's core requirements in English and History. Watauga College students live in the Living and Learning Center, Appalachian's newest residence hall as they complete the two-year program. In 2008 Watauga College changed its name to Watauga Global Community.Watauga College was first based in Watauga Hall, then for decades was based in East Hall, a large U shaped dormatory on the east end of Campus. The dorm was known campus wide as having the largest rooms of any dorm on the Appalachian campus, but it ranked as one of the oldest dorms on campus too. Upon the completion of the Living and Learning Center in 2004, Watauga College relocated and East Hall was renovated.
