Watch Me Rise: Recipes for Bread, Poems for Growth is a collection of poems and recipes that examine the hope, heartbreak and healing that accompanies mental health recovery. Created by mental health advocate Dayna Altman of Bake it Till You Make it LLC, Watch Me Rise follows the growth and development of bread recipes as a tool to mirror the growth and development that comes with healing and living with mental illness. Poem topics range from depression, eating disorders, living with OCD, managing medication, surviving sexual violence and finding a voice in a world that so often leaves us feeling like we have to be quiet. The recipes in the book span levels of difficulty and include banana bread, soft pretzels and rainbow bagels, among others. All poems are illustrated by members of the Bake it Till You Make it community.
