A study that led to improvement of water and sanitation status at Bugungu Secondary School, Buliisa district (Uganda) was carried out by a student of Uganda Martyrs University, Bachelor of Public Health-Health Promotion between July 2016 and July 2017. The purpose of the study was to work with and empower students & staff of the school improve their health status, specifically to achieve the following objectives; (a) identify problems affecting the health of students & staff of the school, (b) prioritize health related problems faced by students & staff of the school, (c) identify the most appropriate solutions and locally available resources to solve the problems, and (d) equip students & staff of the school with appropriate health promotion skills. An action research approach (qualitative study design) was used. Methods to collect data during community diagnosis included; transect walk and observation, focus group discussion and reference to relevant literatures. A total of 176participants (165 students & 11 staff) were enrolled in the study using a convenience sampling technique.
