Neptunia oleracea Lour. Syn. Neptunia prostrata (Lam.) Baill., a tropical plant in Eastern South Asia and Southeast Asia, serves both as a vegetable and traditional herb for addressing various health issues. Despite its economic and nutritional importance in urban agriculture, FAO statistics overlook its contributions. In Thailand, extracts from Neptunia oleracea display antioxidant activity, while in Vietnam, it is cultivated in the ponds for vegetables. Isolated phenolic compounds from water mimosa show promising in DPPH free radical scavenging and -glucosidase inhibition. The plant exhibits potential as an anti-cancer agent, reducing C-Myc and PERK ½ protein levels. Latest study revealed the amount of N2 fixation by water mimosa was 4.38-13.64 mg/pot. and the transfer from the rice was 3.97-9.54 mg/pot. WHO report approximately 80% of the world population incorporating plant based drugs into their healthcare practices. Water mimosa cultivation providing daily income, especially in North East India. However, despite profitability, traditional cultivation lacks standardization. If standardized, it will enhance sustainability and elevate its status as a dependable income.
