This study provides an overview of the theoretical, conceptual, and empirical research related to the concept of (im)politeness. First, waves of (im)politeness research are introduced. Second, a critical review of the traditional approaches is presented. Third, theories of impoliteness with a focus on the limitations of Culpeper's model are discussed. In the next part, the relationship between impoliteness and morality is established. Finally, the concepts of morality, the moral order, and the Moral Foundation Theory (MFT) are explained in detail.
