Although studies on Muslim identity have increased significantly in the past ten years, this book is important because it provides a unique investigation compared to other similar studies. It investigates Indonesian young Muslims' ways of constructing identities. This book provides a wonderful overview on ways of these Muslims negotiate their ways of being within multiple settings. These young Muslims see themselves through multiple lenses. They tend to associate themselves as westerns, and at the same time, they see themselves as strong Muslims who have Indonesian background. This book also provides some insights about Muslim parents' perception, aspiration and most importantly expectation toward their children. These expectations, however, sometimes meet with challenges and resistance, while in some other time, these expectations are negotiable. For its interesting and useful contents, this book deserves students, academicians and scholars' attentions.
