Given the rate and speed of current damage being done to rural ponds, by the year 2025, there shall be no more traditional rural ponds left over in Haryana. Eutrophication due to hyacinth over growth is the principal cause of depletion of ponds. Expansion of village outskirts, merging of villages with adjoining towns and cities have brought pressure on each and everyone to blind by convert ponds into habitable land. Earlier, rural ponds were revered by the villagers under the customs, rituals and ethics prescribed by age old societal behavior patterns. However, now unethical acts committed and practiced by the semi-literates are spelling disaster to the conditions.
