This book will focus on the effects that emigration can have on the migrants' home countries. Considering the lack of a very detailed literature for single countries on emigration, emigration will be reviewed on a general level. It will do so by embedding insights from the labour economics literature surrounding emigration, given that this is the main channel through which emigration affects migrants' home countries. Both short-medium term and long term will be taken into consideration. Consequently, it will analyse more deeply the theoretical ideas that underpin the present literature. A section will be dedicated to the phenomenon of remittances too, acknowledging that this is also another channel through which emigration can affect migrants' home countries and that it could be subject of further exploration.
